ISI Summer Camp 2022! – 15th July

Having the ISI summer camp back after a 2-year absence has been very refreshing to see! With the numbers increasing weekly, and the weather getting better, the students have been having great fun! This week is the third week of the camp, and the activities are in full swing.

Did you know?

There are no extreme heat or heatwaves in Ireland… Our island tends to escape the heatwaves that happen elsewhere in Europe. The average temperature in Ireland in July can be anywhere between 10-17 degrees Celsius. The average high in July is between 16-19 degrees…. Chilly right?

This week has been very busy with different trips and activities. On Monday, we saw the camp go to Phoenix Park in the afternoon. The Phoenix Park is Europe’s largest city park, comprising 1750 acres. It was first opened to the public in 1747 as a place of enjoyment for all the citizens of Dublin. Today, the park is enjoyed by 10 million local, national and international visitors annually.

The group enjoyed riding bikes around the park, taking pictures of the deer, playing football, and doing some sunbathing after their busy day in school!

Did you know?

Pope John Paul ll visited Phoenix Park in 1979 and over 1 million people showed up!

Tuesday was another busy day for all of the students. Some of them did a tour of the GPO which is called the General Post Office. During the Easter Rising of 1916, the GPO served as the headquarters of the uprising’s leaders. It was from outside this building on the 24th of April 1916, that Patrick Pearse read out the Proclamation of the Irish Republic.

While half of the group went to the GPO, the other half visited the EPIC museum. This is the Irish Emigration Museum, which has become one of Europe’s largest attractions!

More afternoon activities involved a trip to Bray. Bray is a seaside town just outside of Dublin. Here the students were able to climb Bray’s head, relax on the beach, and try the famous fish and chips.

The rest of the week saw the camp enjoy sports such as swimming and basketball, some free time to relax with friends and an evening of fun at a disco!

It’s been a very busy week here at Belvedere College, and it’s not over yet. For those of you who are staying with us another week, we hope you enjoy The Giant’s Causeway on Saturday. For those who are going home, we hope you had a great time here in Ireland, and we hope to see you again soon 😊

From all of us here on the summer camp team, we wish you a very happy summer.
